Self Portrait 12" x 12" Acrylic on Canvas
Artist Statement
How I use colour, style and media directly relates to each adverse mood. I believe colour directly affects moods and/or triggers certain emotions and memories. My work is fueled by my fears. Through painting, I come to the answers and reasoning that I long for. I smear these renditions on canvas to release my inner demons. My art is the eclectic representation of the chaos in my daily life.
I will make art till death do me part. Art is my story. Art is my perspective. Art is my release. Art is my sanity. Art is how I survive. Art is what keeps me Alive.
Biography
Born in 1979, Darlene Muto was raised in Chatham, Massachusetts. Darlene put her heart in the arts at a young age. With family support and the influential, renowned Cape Cod artist, Nancy Cole living across the street, Darlene's curiosity for painting flourished. She began her creative studies at Pensacola Junior College. Later, she attended several other schools such as Cape Cod Community College, Massachusetts College of Art and Florida Community College of Jacksonville. Each experience introduced her to a different perspective of art. She studied oil, acrylic, charcoal, soft pastels, photography and drawing. This was only the beginning of her life long career, fueled by curiosity and expression. In 2007 Darlene immersed herself in the Jacksonville art scene, showcasing her work at The Women's Center of Arlington and Works of Art, and several other venues. She continues to develop her style by mixing media, coming up with new and inventive ways to make art.
Darlene's work is inspired by the moods and patterns of the mind; from worry free, bubbly bright colours to the disturbingly dark, she transcends her current vibe through her paint brush.
Darlene currently resides in the Riverside area of Jacksonville, Florida. Her future plans are a road trip around the United States, selling art out of her van and at venues across the country. She believes this will introduce her to new art, perspectives and places to explore.
